The inhabitants of Mokmok Island have two peculiarities: they possess zoomorphic physical characteristics and almost none of them have a mouth. Words have in fact been the means to implement terrible discrimination and persecution, culminating in "that night", an event so horrible that it convinced the entire population to give up their voice and start communicating exclusively in writing. Awarè, an orphan boy with a red panda tail and a passion for music, is one of the few inhabitants who still has a mouth and a voice, which makes him the classic "weird guy". His personal story is intertwined with that of Rebi, a florist, and Moroi, the introverted daughter of the mayor, two girls who were once very close but then separated by serious acts of bullying. Awarè, who cares deeply for his two friends, will do his best to help them to rebuild their relationship.
