in meiji era japan, between the 19th and 20th centuries, young satoko is a beautiful girl with a large inheritance to protect, determined to marry a nobleman for the good of her family. before she can achieve her goal, however, she is targeted by a mysterious assassin, shinpei. in a desperate attempt to save her life, satoko surprises her potential executioner by asking him to marry her. his proposal is not sincere but, unfortunately for her, it is accepted. it will not be easy, now, for satoko to find a way to break the engagement without losing her life, because shinpei, when it comes to love, takes the vow "till death do us part" very seriously!
