At the end of the Defense Forces selection exam, a mysterious humanoid kaiju revives a large, suppressed honju, putting Kikoru Shinomiya and the other test takers in danger. The situation becomes truly desperate for the girl, but at that moment Kafka Hibino appears in front of the enormous creature, transformed into a kaiju! Who or what was the monster that appeared out of nowhere, and what was its goal?

Japan has one of the highest rates of kaiju appearances in the world, with enormous, destructive creatures invading the country on an almost daily basis. Kafka Hibino, who now works for a company that specializes in disposing of kaiju carcasses, once aspired to become a soldier in the Defense Forces, the special forces tasked with suppressing monsters and defending the country. One day, however, a mysterious organism infiltrates Kafka's body, transforming him into what the Defense Forces codename "Kaiju No.8"... The saga of the man who became a kaiju begins!
