The protagonist, Nathan Drake, launched into the impossible adventure of finding the immense fortune of Admiral Sir Francis Drake (of whom the hero believes himself to be a direct descendant), is a professional explorer.

The imagery from which the protagonist's figure draws heavily is subtended between the figures of Lara Croft and Indiana Jones. From a gaming point of view, this is reflected in a gameplay largely dedicated to interaction with vast wild environments.

The inspiration from the latest adventures of the most famous archaeologist in the world is evident from the very first stages of the game.

Using a concept that inevitably recalls that of Prince of Persia, but which found definitive consecration only in Tomb Raider: Legend, Drake's Fortune requires the player to traverse long and treacherous "obstacle courses", demonstrating not only a keen sense of observation, but also perfect timing in executing precise and almost human-like jumps.
